I came here with my dog. An electric kettle, central heating and an iron in my superior double room were useful during stay. The location was magnificent, within easy walking distance of a shopping mall.

I was away for a respite from caring for my husband & needed a comfortable place in the centre of the city. The room was cosy & quiet & sevice in the breakfast room excellent.
The only thing which could have improved my stay would be a window with a view, as there was really only a skylight & no armchair

The location in Wells city was superb, we had a lovely room overlooking the West face of Wells Cathedral, which was quite special. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.
It wasnt a problem but we had to go across the road to the sister hotel for breakfast, because the hotel wasnt manned before 10.00am. My husband and I thought this was quite amusing as we had visions of us running across the road in our complementary robes and slippers. But a very good breakfast when we got there!.

Sensational breakfast with lots of food options. Incredible location, 5 minutes' walk to West Front. Amazing food in the in-house restaurant in the vicinity.

The room was fantastic - looking right onto the cathedral and green. The gentleman who took my bag up and gave me information about the place was friendly, helpful and very enthusiastic about the place in general. Dining room was very comfortable - no uneasiness about dining alone there - everyone made me feel relaxed and welcome. I would recommend this hotel to anyone - and the room - as long as people are able to make it up the tiny staircase! The coffee was also first rate.

Charming Stay with a Majestic View
Staying in a quaint room with a cathedral view added a magical touch to our trip. The breakfast selection was good, especially the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. For the best experience, reserve a table at the restaurant ahead of time to avoid long waits.

Our room was very comfortable and clean. It is in a fabulous location - right in the centre of town with the hotel beer garden part of the "front lawn" of the magnificent Wells Cathedral. The owners also own the hotel across the street where cars can be parked, breakfast is served and the bill is paid the next morning (not a problem at all). WiFi is available throughout the hotel. Our room was on the first floor which was easily accessible but I did notice some very steep steps to the next floor. there is an award winning restaurant on the ground floor where we did enjoy a very nice if a little expensive meal during our stay.

We decided to go to Wells for a short break and were delighted with our stay at The Ancient Gatehouse hotel. The staff were extremly helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. We had three excellent meals in the hotels award winning restaurant and would highly recommend it to others who choose to stay here. Our room was beautifully decorated with stunning views of Wells Cathedral, it was well kept and very clean with adequate facilities. We couldn't of asked for a better location in Wells. We will definately be back.

Perfect location with fine views of the cathedral. Stairs are very steep and not great for mobility issues. Service at the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast options varied. The hotel's history adds a unique charm that's hard to find elsewhere.
